I like to avoid pre-cooking food that will be going into the crock pot as much as possible. I have run across many crockpot meatball recipes that require forming the meatballs, baking them, and then adding them to the crockpot. To me that is way to many steps and dirtying unnecessary dishes. This is a great way to reduce the dishes and time it takes to prep. If you aren’t a fan of ground turkey make these with ground beef instead.
Crockpot Turkey Meatballs
Adapted from Skinny Taste
Serves 6
Ingredients
For meatballs:
- 20 oz ground turkey
- ¼ cup seasoned breadcrumbs
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tbsp dried parsley
- 1 egg
- 1 clove garlic crushed
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
For sauce:
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, smashed
- 28oz can crushed tomatoes
- 1 bay leaf
- Pinch of salt and pepper
- 1 tbsp basil
Directions
1. For sauce: In a small skillet heat olive oil over medium heat, add the 4 cloves of smashed garlic and sauté until golden, do not burn.
2. In the crockpot pour the can of crushed tomatoes, add bay leaf, basil, and garlic and oil mixture.
3. In a large bowl combine turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, garlic, and cheese. Mix all the ingredients and form small meatballs. I use a cookie scoop to form my meatballs.
4. Add the meatballs to the sauce and cook on low 6 hours.
