Homemade Naan

Serves: 12-15
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  1. In a large bowl dissolve yeast in warm water. Let sit 10 minutes until frothy. Stir in sugar, milk, egg, salt, and enough flour to make a soft dough. I added flour in ½ cup increments and ended up using about 3 ½ cups. Knead for 6 to 8 minutes on a lightly floured surface, until smooth.
  2. Place dough in a well oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let rise for 1 hour.
  3. Punch down dough, knead in garlic. Pinch of small pieces of dough, about the size of a golf ball. Roll into balls and place on a baking sheet. Cover with dry towel and allow to rise about 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat the grill to high heat.
  5. Roll (or use hands to flatten like pizza dough) each piece of dough into a thin circle. Brush each side of dough lightly with butter and grill 2-3 minutes per side.
