Menu Plan and Shopping List and Trader Joe’s!

I’m changing some things up from here on out, or at least until I change my mind again Smile. See more info on the Getting Started page, but essentially I’m now saying these menu plans are loosely based on the Publix ad. As our family makes the switch to organics we have begun shopping at other outlets for some meats and veggies. We stock up when we find good prices and try to get the most out of each ingredient we buy. For the most part every thing I share will still be able to be found at Publix, but if you follow along on Facebook I will give you tips of where I find the best deals.

This past week I got to experience Trader Joe’s for the first time. Three recently opened in Florida within the last year and I finally got my booty to one of the stores. The Sarasota location is the closest to my house, but I still have a few friends lingering around Gainesville so I made a little road trip out of it, visited my sorority little sister, and got to see what Trader Joe’s is all about.

Trader Joe’s was quite busy, but I actually expected it to be even busier. I hear weekends are a madhouse. We took our time going up and down every row inspecting the loot.  I grabbed a few things that others suggested to me and a few things that looked yummy. My overall total was $50, not bad for what I got. We really didn’t need a ton of food, so this trip was probably on the smaller side, but I can’t wait to drag my husband to the Sarasota location in the future.

Lets see I got the Speculoos cookie butter chocolate bars, spinach artichoke dip, sea salt, frozen tamales, whole wheat pizza dough organic apples, organic bananas, two different soups, sweet and spicy pecans, organic carrots, tomatoes, organic kale, roasted red pepper spread, organic coconut oil, hot salsa, edamame hummus, burrata mozzarella, and the blue tortilla chips.

We are still making our way through trying everything, but so far the edamame hummus might be our favorite. Tonight we are trying the burrata mozzeralla in a caprese salad and I might be a little too excited about that.

Love the new meal planning concept! I don’t understand the excitement of TJ and I assume its because I’ve never been?? What am I missing?!

I got excited about the organics at such great prices. Most of the organic produce was cheaper than conventional produce at Publix. A lot of people like their prepared foods too, which isn’t the biggest draw for me, but I did grab one or two things to try.

I love Trader Joe’s! When I was little I used to tell people it was my favorite store. And in college, I used to go there to stock up on snack food.

Unfortunately though, they don’t have one in Louisiana, but they are supposed to be building one. And I’m sure once it’s open I’ll go there ALL THE TIME!
