In a small saucepan heat 1 cup of water, sugar, and mint. Bring to a boil. Stir to dissolve sugar and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and set aside.
Heat 4 cups of water in a large saucepan with the 5 tea bags. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let tea steep for 30 minutes.
Remove mint from the simple syrup and tea bags from tea and discard. Pour syrup and tea into a large pitcher. Add 4 cups of cold water. Stir to combine and refridgerate until cooled.
